After a vote by show of hands on Monday March 26th Otonabee Squares has decided to dance on Easter Monday – April 9th. We hope to see you there in your Easter best!
Next week, April 2, will be our Crazy Hat Day! Please try to come out for this fun day! We hope on this day to have a representative from “Our Space” join us to receive our donation of $450. This was raised selling used square dance clothing. If you wish to dress up next week, please do so.
Some people have asked why we sell square dancing clothing when we have a “casual dress” policy at our club. We believe that people can wear whatever they like, casual or square dance attire. We declare a casual dress policy so no one feels pressured to “dress up”. When our dancers go out to other clubs or special dances it is expected that those dancing as women will wear a skirt – if you like wearing crinolines go ahead and dress the part. If not, just wear any skirt or dress you like to wear! Men are expected to wear long sleeved shirts at outside dances. (Those ladies dancing as men can wear skirts or pants – another advantage of dancing as a man!!). There have been surveys and studies conducted regarding recruitment and attracting people to join square dancing and the conclusion is that casual dress is better way to go.
I would appreciate your opinion to help us do our job as publicity co-ordinators.

This Monday we will be asking you who wants to dance on April 9th which is Easter Monday. (The church office want an answer from us!) Check your calendar – we will ask for a show of hands.
In past years we have danced as there were enough people interested.
The Spring Spree is fast approaching and we thought you might like some more information about the event. View the document Spring Spree Details to read a full description of the event, the callers and all of the activities planned for the day.

The beginners workshop to be held tomorrow, Tuesday March 20th is on! It will run from 7:00-9:30pm at the Prince of Whales School located near Sherbrooke and Monaghan.
We hope everyone will come enjoy the dancing!
The executive is offering to hold a workshop for first year dancers on Tuesday, March 20th from 7-9:30pm. Location to be advised. We recognize the fact that some people would benefit from extra help and we really do not want to you to give up. Square dancing is fun especially when you get more confident in executing your moves!
The intent of this workshop is to help the newer dancers. (But we welcome “angels” to come and help.) We realize that some of our January student dancers have been ill. Lessons are only a small part of the learning process. It is the practice on the floor which solidifies the moves into your brain and body. When you have danced a few years they talk about “muscle memory”. It becomes almost a reflex action when you hear the call. So you need to attend regularly to become a good dancer.
This workshop will not take place unless we have at least two squares of first year dancers. I would hope that all the January class will attend. Even with two squares the club is subsidizing the evening so we want to know for sure that you will attend. Please reply to Jean Lander to let us know one way or the other if you plan on attending. If we have not heard from you in a couple of days the phone committee will be calling you so to save this extra work, please respond.
Spring Spree is coming up and we would like you all to have the opportunity to attend this fabulous event (right here in Peterborough). This is why the club is willing to put some money and the necessary work and time into this workshop.
In other news….
To celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the Spring Spree, Peterborough Mayor Daryl Bennett will be making a proclamation to declare the week beginning April 21st as “SQUARE DANCE WEEK IN PETERBOROUGH”!
